It is reported that Samsung has chosen to invest 17 billion US dollars to build a chip factory in Tyler, Texas

According to foreign media reports, sources said that Tesla’s main supplier, Samsung Electronics, has chosen to invest $17 billion to build a chip factory in Tyler, Texas. Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics announced plans to spend $17 billion to build a chip manufacturing plant in the United States.

A document previously submitted by Samsung to Texas officials shows that if the company decides to choose Tyler, it plans to break ground in the first quarter of 2022 to build this new chip factory and start production in the fourth quarter of 2024.

According to foreign media reports, Samsung’s proposed plant is only about 40 minutes away from Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory, which means that Tesla may become one of Samsung’s customers. Tesla will produce hundreds of thousands of cars every year, and the output will gradually increase, which will require a large number of chips.

Samsung is one of the world's largest manufacturers of memory chips and smartphones, and its new chip manufacturing plant is expected to be the company's most advanced plant to date. The new plant will expand Samsung’s competitiveness with other chip makers, including TSMC, which produces chips for Apple's iPhone.
